Australian Flying Corps and Royal Australian Air Force Association
Queensland Division
Who we are:
The RAAF Association Queensland Division (RAAFA QLD) is an Australian registered charity and autonomous Association incorporated under Letters Patent, issued by the Governor of Queensland on the 17th of October, 1946.
Our membership comprises serving and former members of the Royal Australian Air Force, serving and former members of the aviation elements of the Australian Defence Force and Allied Armed Forces, their adult family members, current and former Australian Air Force Cadet staff, and current and former Air League staff.
The Queensland Division is a founding member and shareholder of the National body, the Air Force Association (AFA Ltd), Australia, originally formed on the 26th of February 1920, and more recently incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee.
What we do:
Our Mission:
To support the wellbeing of the Air Force family through Advocacy, Assistance, Camaraderie and Commemoration.
An important example of these efforts is that we provide emergency financial support to partners of recently deceased members. Referral to trusted advocacy advice for application to government support for example to offset funeral costs, and the option to have a ‘Poppy Service’ supporting the conduct of the bereavement service are within the remit of Branches.
Branches undertake wellbeing and camaraderie activities for members such as social outings, coffee mornings, monthly lunches and celebratory dinners.
Elsewhere, we support commemorative activities such as the birthday of the RAAF in March, ANZAC Day, the Bomber Command Commemorative Service in June, and Remembrance Day.
How we do this:
We conduct our Queensland based activities in accordance with our Constitution and associated By-Laws, and with the guidance issued by the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC). This forms the basis of our governance. Our Letters Patent are administered by the Premier’s Department of the Queensland Government.
We raise funds by direct donation, grants, activities such as selling memorabilia, merchandise, conducting raffles, and Statewide activities such as our support to the ‘Scootaville’ ride. We account for, and allocate these funds to, activities approved under our Constitution.
Local Branches provide Members the bedrock for camaraderie, advocacy advice, welfare and wellbeing support, and social activities. Branches elect delegates to the State Council that governs the Division. State Council oversees the activities of the State Executive, charged with the administration of the Division’s governance foundations and State finances.
An Annual Assembly of Delegates, the AAD, performs the functions of an annual general meeting, where the members of the State Executive are elected, the performance of the Division is reviewed, our audited accounts are presented, the forthcoming calendar of events is published, and our charitable strategies are further developed.
Our Vision:
To ensure that current and former Air Force members and their families receive the veterans support they need and that their legacy is ensured.
Our Values:
In all our actions, we reaffirm our allegiance to Australia, honouring the ideals of freedom and sacrifice. RAAFA Queensland holds the true values of honesty, trust, loyalty, courage and camaraderie.
